Early November Updates

by Dennis M. Myers, 11/5/2020

As I write this, we still don't have a definite answer as to who will be President next year. And that's fine with me. I am one of those who believes we should count all the votes. It only seems to take longer when the margins are so close.

But enough of that, let's talk about me!

I spent a lot of time after the bookcase build sorting and cleaning my office. Once that was done, I finally managed to get back into writing. It's going well, and I am very close, as in less than 9,000 words to my goal for the first draft. I have a few scenes left to create, and that should get me in the ballpark. Then there is always adding scenery to those occasional white rooms, and making the character actions more than just heads bobbling.

Once I am done with this first draft, I'll give it to my editor for a look at the structure and the story, while I dive into Broken Trust. The third of four books in the Rise of the Automated Empire series. It's the one where things that were built are torn apart. It is a deep examination of one character's ongoing mental health issues as well. Difficult to write, but it's the soul of the story. I already have the outline and plenty of notes and a random assortment of scenes. It's been sitting at over 34,000 words since February. I've added less than five hundred worlds of notes since then.

My job remains 100% work from home. This is fine by me as my office is a great place to work from. I am in constant contact with my teammates, even if I never see their faces. As a software developer, this is nearly perfect. Peace and quite for developing, and instant contact if I have a question. And absolutely never does random manager or neighboring conversation distract me. The worst I've had was when I left he door open and my daughter's dog demanded attention. Which, to be clear, wasn't a problem at all. Just funny, since I was on camera at the time.

Band-Maid (my current favorite band) is releasing a single next month, and a new album in January. The single is going to be the opening theme song for the third season of an anime called Log Horizon. I am excited. I am also looking forward to more live performance videos. Their Shibuya concert was mixed a little quietly for the strings, but the energy and playfulness, coupled with the individual solos are so much fun to watch. For an example you might look at the production music video for Domination, and compare it to their live show. Remarkable difference. I'll add the links below.

I appear to have a handful of people reading my blogs, but no one has signed up and downloaded the free short story. No one has added a comment or started a discussion, either. I hope that changes in the future. I am considering adding a full message board for people to discuss a wide range of topics. We will just have to see how many people are interested.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate. Please stay safe. Please remember that family is nice, but not spreading Covid is nice, too. Please try to balance it all, and then good luck whatever you do.

Waiting for the results - even from across the Atlantic - is nerve wracking! Don't lose heart at the lack of interaction: people don't like signing up to new sites any more...
