My Work

The Rabbit Hole, Volume Two

Challenge 47

Challenge 45

by Dennis M. Myers, 03/21/2020

Even in normal times it can be hard to sit down a write about something I find interesting. The current pandemic has had a negative effect on my ability to sit down and write something trivial.

I was tempted to announce I was suspending operations. Then I realized how both of you are still actually reading these things. So I'll keep going.

There was already quite a bit going on in my life right this year. I'm still patiently awaiting word on my first book. My editor is going through a spot of difficulty. My contract is up at the end of next month. My 70 year old uncle is living with us until he can get a place of his own. He's on waiting lists with over 12 month wait times.

At this past Mysticon during a conversation at dinner, I bought Conomicon.com to create a website where people like us can go to find out where the good food is near a convention, and what places to avoid. That's been a real pain in the code base. I need to get back to writing soon.

Then Covid-19 came along. Not to put too fine a point on it, but my demographic, and that of my uncle, don't have great odds with this thing, so we are all hoping to skip it. My employer sent the entire office to work from home, and that's gone well. But now I am facing the prospect of interviewing and obtaining a new posting while never leaving the house. Even starting work from home, apparently. That's going to be interesting.

May's lab also shut down. They gave her all the vacation she needs, so no worries there. They love her as much as I do. And that's saying something.

In a few minutes our Thai food will arrive. We ordered delivery from our favorite place. They are a family owned business, and we want to be sure to do what we can to help them through this time.

And on that note, I'll end this by just saying that if you are reading this, I care about you being safe. I want you, yes, BOTH of you, to be careful. Be mindful, and above all, be kind.
