I've never written a blog before. I'm still getting used to the word. Blog. It's a strange word, invented in modern times. Originally it was web log. A log of something or other, posted on the web. Now, since I clearly remember when they invented the world wide web, I can clearly remember a time before the word blog was invented. And yet, today we all know what a blog is. There are certain expectations that come with a blog. What it should be, what it shouldn't be. I don't intend to follow these normal expectations with any regularity. I'll just think of it as optional reading material for people who want to read it. Some of it will be weird little things like this, where I muse on things I find amusing. Others might be a bit of history for the Automated Empire, or updates on my life in general. I'll try to steer clear of politics. Too much anger, there.
Eventually I'll add a tagging system so you can sort the entries you want to see away from the ones you don't.
I am making a commitment to posting here at least once a week. Don't try to hold me to it. I'll post more frequently when I am excited about something.
No, I don't have a notification system to alert you when I post something new. I'll get to that some day. Maybe. Right after the tags, I suppose. Same goes for a comments section.
Look, I'm a software developer by trade. I do web based programming for a living. Sure, I could spend my spare time working on this website. But to be perfectly honest, even as I write this, I would much rather be writing a new part of a story.
I am currently working on physical descriptions of characters for Final Assembly
needs to have a good look at to be sure there is a solid story in all the stuff that is happening. I write mostly by the seat of my pants, so it can be a little disconnected at times. I am also working on Endurance
. That's the first Automated Empire
book that won't be part of the Rise of the Automated Empire
series. Yes, it features characters from that series, but it has nothing to do with the politics in and around the Earth. It's a first contact story. It doesn't go well, of course. The contact, not the book.
I am also sporadically adding to a new book that takes place hundreds of years after the Automated Empire
has risen. And then there's my squirrel story. Yeah, I know. I have a squirrel story. I have plenty of things I would rather be working on than this blog entry.
So why am I writing a blog? Because of you. You, right there, right now, reading this overly long post. I am doing this because I love you. Rather, I love the idea of you, in the future, caring enough to read what I have written. I wanted to give you something.
