I hadn't intended to go, but
May had to work for an hour or so on Saturday morning, and it's a fifteen minute drive to work. She suggested I go spend a while at the convention, which is only 3 blocks away from her lab. I knew
Jody Lynn Nye was going to be there, and I really wanted to get to know her better, as well as get any advice I could from an experienced author I admire. When I got there, I found that she was at the "Bard's Tower", right next to
Phil and Kaja Foglio. Coincidentally, I was wearing a Foglio original t-shirt. The one with
Agatha riding a steam powered mechanical horse. There was only one person at the tower when I arrived. It was early, so I spent a little time wandering around the convention hall. I saw
Deep Roy,
Lou Ferrigno, and a half dozen other celebrities that have played characters that I thought were well written, and well acted. I must say I was slightly disappointed at missing
Felicia Day. She was running late, I suppose.

I wandered back to the tower to find it well populated. The Foglios are very nice people. It was a privilege to meet them. Their
Girl Genius online comic is a great deal of fun. Then I spent time talking with Jody. She recognized me at once and welcomed me with a smile. I'll tell you now she is a very nice and generous woman with a creative spirit that I have admired for years. She listened thoughtfully when I blathered on, and talked a little about herself. She also gave me some serious advice, which I am currently implementing with my editor.
One of the things I need to fix in
Final Assembly is my lack of character descriptions. As I was gathering photographs to help me represent characters, I realized I had to describe the main character's grandmother. I found a picture of Jody from a few years ago with a very nice hairstyle. A perfect Hazel Sheffield.
